Google’s October 9 event is only a week away, and while leaks of the upcoming announcements have been endlessly pouring in, Google may still have a few small hidden surprises. This new aqua color Home Mini speaker isn’t one of them, though, as the company just officially announced it on its website.

When the Google Home Mini debuted last year, it was available in a dark “Charcoal” grey, a lighter “Chalk” grey and a pinkish orange “Coral.” Today, a week before Google’s annual Pixel event, the company is unveiling a brand new hue of the Home Mini — a minty blue “Aqua.”

“Coral is warm, Aqua is cool,” said Isabelle Olsson, the head of industrial design for Google Home, to Engadget. “It’s a soothing yet fresh option that could be used to either contrast or blend in.”

The Pixel 3 was also leaked with a similar hue, so its a match!Aesthetic consistency among its hardware line has become an increasing focus for Google in recent years.

The Google Home Mini in Aqua will be available on October 29th for $49, which is the same price as the other colors. As for what else Google will unveil this year, we’ll just have to wait until next week to find out.

When I found out Google Home Mini had dropped to $29 for a limited time I jumped at the opportunity as I’m sure many of you did. I scooped up a coral and black Mini and anxiously awaited their arrival. My plan was to have one in my bathroom, one in my bedroom and my main unit in the living room. My bedroom and bathroom are on the top floor of my house with the minis being about 15 feet away from each other each behind their own closed door and my living room is one floor down. I thought with closed doors and enough space this shouldn’t be an issue. I assure you, there were too many cooks in my kitchen.

I use my bedroom mini as a speaker and an alarm clock, my bathroom home as a speaker and a way to take calls and the home in my living room to take calls and listen to music as well as cast to my TV. I began noticing alarms going off in my bathroom, voices from upstairs answering my questions, and just overall chaos. This is when I began to realize just how sensitive the mics are in the Google Home systems. I began to whisper to my devices like I was telling them a dirty secret that I didn’t want the others to hear. It is funny but annoying.

I realized that the one big problem is you cannot turn down the sensitivity of the Home units. I only recommend you get this many if and when Google creates that feature or if you have a large house. Having this many smart speakers is not a bad thing you just have to make sure you have a good use for the speakers. I will not be returning them, however I wanted to post this as a PSA for those of you who may take advantage of this deal.
