XBox Adaptive Controller

Ever since Microsft announced its XBox Adaptive Controller back in May, it was still on pre-orders. Today, it finally goes on sale!

The XBox Adaptive controller looks like a brick from olden times. It has two jumbo programmable buttons. At the back, you will have 3.5mm jacks, all for adding external buttons, triggers etc. With “no teeth” concept, the package was with accessibility in mind.

On the left, you will find a USB Type A port, along with the Type C port as well. This marks the controller as the first controller with Type-C connectivity.

The XBox Adaptive Controller is available for a price tag of $99.99 from Microsoft and GameStop.

Xbox Insider team has released a new Insider Preview build for Xbox One. Xbox One Preview Alpha Ring Insiders should now be receiving Xbox One system update (1805.180430-1920 ).

The new build comes with Discord and Xbox Live integration, 120Hz video support and more. The update also fixes some of the previously known issues but also adds new issues to the list of known bugs

Here’s what new in the latest build:

120Hz – Support for More Video Output Options

In this build Gamers with monitors and televisions that support a 120Hz refresh rate can now turn on 120Hz support for 1080p and 1440p output resolutions on Xbox One S and Xbox One X. This high refresh rate option means you can now take full advantage of displays with 120Hz capabilities. High refresh rate support can provide a smoother gaming experience and lower latency on some displays, and games may benefit from reduced tearing and stuttering via the 120Hz output.

Connect with Gamers Across Xbox Live and Discord

You can now easily link your Xbox Live account to your Discord account from a Discord app (PC, mobile) and from the “linked social accounts” Setting menu on Xbox One. When you link Discord to your Xbox Live account, your Xbox Live presence will be shared across Discord, enabling friends and users in your same Discord servers to see what you are playing on Xbox Live. Keep in mind that your Presence will be shared with anyone on Discord, independently of your Privacy Settings on Xbox.

Please note for this feature to work you to do the following on an Android or iOS device.  Currently, the Beta version of the Discord app on Android and iOS supports the account linking (the PC app is coming soon from the Discord team):

What you need to do on the console:

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Linked social accounts
  2. Select “Link” under Discord
  3. Follow the instruction in your screen to start the account linking process:
  4. Say ‘yes’ to the MSA consent dialog, allowing Xbox to share your information with Discord
  5. A 6 digit PIN code will show up in your console
  6. Go to your Discord app and insert the 6 digit code that shows up in your screen
  7. Accounts should now be linked and your Xbox presence will start being displayed in Discord
  8. If you say ‘no’ to the consent you’ll go back to settings, account won’t be linked

Improvements to the Xbox Accessories App

In this build, we’re also modernizing the Xbox Accessories app to make it easier to navigate and to look and feel more consistent with the rest of the Xbox One dashboard.

More Privacy Options

You will notice a change to the Login flow on the console that only occurs once when you first log in. In the privacy settings menu, you can now also specify whether to send crash dump data for games and apps to Microsoft. We’ll also let you know about scenarios where we need to share your data with game developers, publishers, and other third parties so that you can play online. Finally, we’re giving you a way to close your Microsoft account, which will also remove you from others’ friend’s lists.

Trim Clips Directly in the Guide

Last month, we added a new sharing feature that helps gamers upload their captured screenshots and videos directly to Twitter. In this build, we’re improving on the sharing experience even further; you can now trim your recent game captures directly from the Guide, so you won’t need to switch to Upload Studio to make a quick cut to your saved clips.

These bugs were fixes:

Apps

  • We have fixed launch and activation issues in certain apps such as Hulu, Spotify and Microsoft Edge.

Games

  • We have fixed launch and activation issues in games when the user was playing a title and signed out to show the correct message when launching the title again that they must be signed in.

Guide

  • We have fixed an issue where the button prompt to move Pins in Guide was incorrect.

Microsoft Edge

  • Fixed issues with Microsoft Edge failing to load multiple tabs and the problem when the cursor would disappear when using the browser.

Navigation and Selection in Menu’s

  • Users can now select an action in menus.  This means we have fixed issues to allow users to now:
    • Move/copy content in Network transfer or locally from the internal HDD to an external HDD
    • Set a default disk to install content if they have more than one drive attached
      • Therefore you are now able to set external HDD as default install location if your internal HDD is set

Networking

  • Work has been done to improve the Wi-Fi connectivity when resuming the console from the Instant-on mode and a network was not detected until a reboot.
  • Users should no longer be seeing a “Local cache is full” message when powering on their console.

Profile

  • We have fixed the issue in which some users noticed the Gamerscore icon is missing in their profile when using the Light Theme or Theme schedule.

Issues in the build:

Audio

  • Some users may experience intermittent loss of Audio with certain configurations of AV receivers with ATMOS or with changing audio configurations during console use.
  • Some users may experience loss of Audio playing Final Fantasy XV Workaround to allow audio: Change audio settings to Stereo uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed or Dolby Atmos for Home Theater and play the game

Pi-hole

  • Pi-hole users may encounter issues signing in, creating, or recovering accounts upon downloading the 1804 update. This is due to a new configuration file which is downloaded from a URL Pi-hole blocks by default.
  • Workaround: Add clientconfig.passport.net to the Pi-hole allowed IP address list.

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter an incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

Networking

  • Work continues on the stability of the Wi-Fi connectivity.  If you see any issues please report the problems for investigation.

YouTube

  • Some users are encountering an issue where their YouTube account is being signed out whenever they launch the app.
    • Workaround: Uninstall/re-install the app and sign in with your account again.

Xbox Insider team at Microsoft has decided to move their online community to Reddit. r/XboxInsiders subreddit will serve as the new place for Insiders to participate in discussions, help other Insiders, ask questions and provide feedback to the Insider team.

As the reason, they’ve stated that Xbox Preview Forums are going to change, hence the migration. However, Preview Forums will not be shut down, they’ll just be locked and users will not to allowed to create new posts for few weeks. Xbox Forums, on the other hand, will stay up as usual.

r/XboxInsiders is moderated by mods from r/XboxOne, Xbox Insider Program Staff, and individuals from Xbox Community. The sub was created just a few days ago and 2.5k subscribers already.

It’s good to see Microsoft reach out to its community in ways other than Microsoft’s own Insider forums. r/Windows and r/Microsoft are hotspots for users, and Microsoft even has an official Discord channel for the community. Reddit is one of the best places to have community talks, and I hope Microsoft will improve their Insider forums to match its quality.

Well before Spring Update rollout, Microsoft has delivered a huge update to Xbox Alpha ring Insiders. The update brings in features and improvements that will be coming in the final Windows 10 Spring Update build.

The new build has support for 2K videos, Improved Edge browser, Mixer viewer updates, smarter user feeds and tournament support for games. You can read it in detail below:

Here’s what you would see in Spring update:

1440p Selection Screen

Support for 1440p Video Output

Xbox One X and Xbox One S now support output at 1440p resolution for games and media; 1440p resolution, sometimes referred to as “2560×1440” and “QHD,” is a popular choice for PC users. With over a million and a half more pixels than 1080p, this resolution fills the gap between Full HD and 4K displays.

Start Share Controller

A New Level of Mixer Interactivity

Introducing a new form of Mixer interactivity: Share controller. Soon, Mixer streamers on Xbox One will have the option of sharing their controller with a Mixer viewer who is watching through Mixer.com. Streamers can share their entire controller (except the Xbox button) in the Xbox game they are playing, and a viewer can take control through the on-screen gamepad or by plugging a controller into their PC. Viewer and streamer can work together in the game, or the viewer can cause trouble – resulting in hilarious chaos. It’s your choice!

Share controller isn’t the only new feature for Mixer in this release. Broadcasts no longer stop when you switch games. Your Mixer stream will now pause when you switch games or exit to the dashboard; your viewers will see a pause screen until you jump back into a game, and you’ll see an indicator on your broadcasting overlay to let you know that your stream has been paused automatically. Additionally, you can now start your Mixer broadcasts from anywhere on Xbox One, whether you are on the dashboard, a game’s splash screen or within a game itself.

Share Controller

The Cutting Edge

The Microsoft Edge browser on Xbox One has been updated to a new look that’s modern but still feels familiar. We know how important a good web browsing experience is for you, so we’ve doubled down on making Microsoft Edge easy to navigate with a controller. Improvements to the Favorites and History experience make it simple for you to return to your favorite sites. We’re also very excited to announce that you can now download and upload pictures, music and videos from Microsoft Edge on the console; your downloaded content can then be browsed with the File Explorer app. Other new features to note are tab muting, read aloud and autofill. We’re always looking to improve the browsing experience on Xbox and look forward to your feedback.

More Immersive Audio

If you’re the type of person that loves to rock out to a music playlist while playing your favorite games, we have good news for you! You now have an option to selectively balance game audio against background music within the Guide. Turn down the game volume, crank up the music volume and rock on. But that’s not all. The system sounds on Home and in the Guide have been completely revamped to support spatial audio, so the audio cues from your surround sound system will match the actions you see on-screen.

Club Invite Filters

Powerful Invite Filtering Tools for Club Owners

Club administrators can now filter invitation requests based on various criteria, including reputation, Gamerscore, and recommendations from existing club members. Are you setting up a club for hardcore PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players? Set a filter to only show invitees with over 200 hours of playtime.  Maybe you’re looking for Gamerscore completionists in Forza Motorsport 7? Filter requests to only show invitees with over 900 Gamerscore. These filters will persist until the administrator changes them, so if you set or edit club filters, they’ll still be there the next time you sign-in. Club invitees will also now appear in a vertical list, with details such as their Gamertag, Gamerpic, Gamerscore, a line noting if the new invitees were recommended by an existing club member, and a reputation indicator.

Smarter Feeds

You will soon be able to sort your club feeds to show you “what’s hot” and “top posts.” Use the “what’s hot” filter to see trending content in the club feed that’s popular right now. Filtering by “top posts” will show you the most popular posts of all time in that club.

You will also soon be able to disable comments on your feed posts across clubs, Game Hubs, and Community, so the only person in control of the narrative is you. Finally, we’re cleaning up your feeds by hiding posts for broadcasts once they’ve ended.

Tournaments in GameHub

Open Tournaments

Tournaments are now available directly in Game Hubs, so you don’t have to be a member of a club to start or join a tournament.

In the February update, we told you about a few more features that a subset of users may find – we call these “experiments.” We’re adding even more experiments to the Spring update. These features are only enabled for a portion of the Xbox Insider audience to gauge interest and collect feedback. Last month, we previewed a brand-new collection experience for Xbox Game Pass in My Games and Apps. This month, we’re revamping the experience for Xbox Live Gold as well! You’ll now have a dedicated tab to quickly view and access all your redeemed Games with Gold that you can install. Quickly scroll through all your previously redeemed games and install them with just two button presses.  All of this, and more, will be rolling out to Xbox Insiders over the coming weeks. Thank you, Xbox Insiders, for all your feedback. Your participation in the Xbox Insider Program helps us make the work-in-progress content and features coming to Xbox even better.

Microsoft has just released a new build out for Xbox Preview Alpha insiders. The new update fixes plenty of bugs and brings important improvements.

The new build (rs3_release_xbox_dev_1710.170908-1900) also includes a new firmware update for the Controller. Incorrect gamerscore and achievements showing on Game Hub have also been fixed in this update.

The changelog features these new features:

  • Never Miss Out!
You’re here to play, but sometimes have to step away from your Xbox. We’ve enhanced the notification system when your Xbox is idle so that time-sensitive activities are visible from far away. Whether you’re still in the room or taking the dog out for a walk, your Xbox will keep you instantly up-to-date. At a glance, you’ll know if your friends have come online while you were away or if you’ve been invited to play. You’ll never miss out on what’s going on with your friends, clubs, broadcasts, and more.
We’ve also updated the screen-dimming functionality to better prevent screen ghosting, both when the screen is dimmed and when it’s showing enhanced notifications.
NOTE: This feature is being enabled 9/12 at 9:00 AM PDT, and will become available on Xbox a few hours later (or immediately after a hard reset).
  • Home
Downvoting content in the middle two discovery slots on Home will now instantly remove the content type from view.

Following bugs have been fixed

  • Controller
A new controller firmware update is available for Xbox One controllers with Bluetooth. You can manually download the update from Settings > Kinect & devices > Devices & accessories > Device info.
  • Games & Apps
Fixed an issue which caused games to sometimes fail to appear in Ready to Install.
  • Game Hub
Fixed an issue which sometimes caused Game Hub to display inaccurate Gamerscore or achievements.
  • Minecraft Better Together Beta
Other games should no longer fail to launch after launching the Minecraft Beta.
  • Blu-Ray Player
3D Blu-Ray content now correctly plays in 3D.

Some known bugs in this build:

  • Light Theme
There are some known visual contrast issues in messaging, the entertainment twist, and the Mixer twist—you may see white on white. Fixes will be coming soon.
  • Sign-in
When using Arabic or Hebrew language and signing in with a profile using the “Lock it down” security preference, the sign-in screen which requests Microsoft account e-mail address and password is distorted. This does not affect the profile if it is set to use the “Ask for my passkey” or “No barriers” security preferences.
Workaround: Set the console to use another language, sign-in, and set the profile’s security preference to “Ask for my passkey” or “No barriers”. Alternatively, you can still type in your password as normal using the virtual keyboard though the screen is distorted.
  • Netflix
When using Hebrew language, Netflix fails to launch.
  • Home
Images on the Mixer tab may appear clipped or duplicated.

To sign up as a Xbow preview alpha insider download Xbox Insider Hub from Windows Store in your Xbox and follow on-screen instructions.

Windows 10 already has apps with Microsoft’s new Fluent UI design, and now Xbox got a taste of it too. In this build, the prime focus has been the Home interface on Xbox dashboard. Now you can pin apps, games and even friends to the home screen. If any of your friends are playing a pinned title, you’ll see that in the activity feed.

Xbox One Guide has also received an update. Now it’s more responsive, switching between tabs is faster due to Fluent design. Community section has been refreshed with full-screen activity feed view, new profile view page and more.

Netflix adds support for Dolby Atmos streaming on Xbox One.  Netflix already supports 4K and HDR streaming on Xbox One, and now it’s adding another feather to its hat: Dolby Atmos audio. The company has announced that Atmos audio is now supported on Xbox One for titles that support it, beginning with a new film called Okja.

Netflix stated:

Much like how 4K and HDR bring more stunning and realistic visuals to the screen, Dolby Atmos delivers captivating sound that places and moves audio anywhere in the room, including overhead, to bring entertainment to life all around you, all in the comfort of your own living room.

Along with this announcement, Netflix unveiled their initial lineup. Netflix has outlined its initial lineup of Atmos titles will include:

  • Okja (June 28)
  • BLAME! (July 28)
  • Death Note (August 25)
  • Bright (December)
  • Wheelman (2017)

Anyway, Netflix is now serious about Xbox.

Microsoft had announced in April that it is working on bringing Xbox Hub on PCs and  now the company is officially bringing the Xbox Hub app on Windows 10 PCs. The Xbox Insider Hub on the PC works exactly like it does on the Xbox One, and it also looks a bit similar to the Xbox One app as it’s built on the UWP. You can finish quests, take part in surveys, see all the latest announcements and even remove your Xbox One from the Xbox Insider program if you’d like using the app.

In the official announcement, Microsoft said :

Hello Insiders! Thanks for being among the very first to check out the Xbox Insider Hub on Windows 10 PC via the Xbox Insider Hub PC Beta! Pardon our dust as we are still in active development.

The Xbox Insider Hub is currently in a rough patch but Microsoft has assured for some Great updates in near future.
