AMD Radeon VII

AMD has announced the world’s first 7nm graphics card. This new Radeon VII GPU is built on 2nd gen ‘Vega’ architecture. It has got 16GB memory, 1TB/s memory bandwidth and up to 29 percent higher gaming performance compared to its predecessor.

The key features of this processor are –

  • Exceptional capabilities: The Radeon VII graphics card is built upon 7nm process technology, delivering higher gaming performance than the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics card. Equipped with 60 compute units/3840 stream processors running at up to 1.8GHz and 16GB of ultra-fast HBM2 memory (second-generation High-Bandwidth Memory), the Radeon VII graphics card enables high-performance gaming and ultra-high quality visuals. Ground-breaking 1 TB/s memory bandwidth and a 4,096-bit memory interface paves the way for ultra-high resolution textures, hyper-realistic settings, and life-like characters.
  • Enabling real-time 3D and compute applications: The Radeon VII graphics card delivers the performance required for demanding 3D rendering and video editing applications, and next-generation compute workloads. It provides up to 27 percent higher performance in the popular open source 3D creation application Blender, up to 27 percent higher performance in the professional video editing, color correction and visual effects application DaVinci Resolve 15, and up to 62 percent higher performance in the OpenCL LuxMark compute benchmark compared to the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics card.
  • Extreme gaming performance: The AMD Radeon VII graphics card delivers exceptional performance in DirectX 12- and Vulkan-based games, including up to 35 percent higher performance in Battlefield V, and up to 42 percent higher performance in Strange Brigade, compared to the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics card. It also delivers up to 25 percent higher performance in the widely popular esports title, Fortnite.
  • Smooth gaming with Radeon FreeSync: With the high speeds of today’s graphics cards, framerates often exceed the monitor refresh rate, causing stuttering and tearing. With AMD Radeon FreeSync technology, the popular, standards-based adaptive sync technology supported by more than 550 gaming monitors, gamers can experience smooth gameplay at every level. In addition, AMD Radeon FreeSync2 HDR technology offers more than 2X better brightness and color volume compared to sRGB.
  • Unparalleled experiences with AMD Radeon software: AMD Radeon Software features Day-0 game driver support and up-to-the-minute game optimizations for performance enhancements. Gamers can effortlessly capture, stream and share their memorable moments and clutch victories with Radeon ReLive; monitor performance and PC system info, and socialize with the AMD Link application; and fine-tune a range of settings to fit their needs with RadeonWattMan technology.

Also, when you purchase an eligible AMD Radeon VII graphics card or Radeon VII powered PC, you will get the highly anticipated Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5 and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 for free!

The AMD Radeon VII graphics card will be available from February 7, 2019, for $699.

CES without Samsung is unthinkable. Samsung took a large stage area and is talking about a lot of announcements. One of them is that Bixby will now work with top Google apps. This means that you can ask Bixby to send a mail, using Gmail, or to give directions using Google Maps.

This comes after the news that iTunes is now on Samsung TVs. Speaking of Samsung TVs, they will be also compatible with Google Assistant by way of Google Home and other smart speakers/screens. So you can just ask Google Assistant to show you photos or some video directly on your TV and it’ll do that.

Samsung is trying hard to make Bixby functional and usable. The integration might be useful for more compatibility.

More implications haven’t been announced yet. Stay tuned for more CES coverage.

Last year Microsoft and Qualcomm partnered to bring Windows 10 to PCs powered by ARM chipset, also known and Always Connected PCs. At CES 2018, Qualcomm announced the first major mobile carriers that will support Always Connected PC around the world.

Always Connected PCs will be 2 in 1 laptop that’ll run on Windows 10 S powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. While being a powerful enough to be called a computer, these devices will also be mobile along with carrier connectivity. The device will primarily rely on carrier-based mobile plans on LTE network rather than WiFi connectivity making it highly portable, even worldwide.

These mobile network operators will soon support Always Connected PCs, starting in first half of 2018 and through the year, in China, UK, US, and Italy:

  • China – China Telecom
  • Italy – TIM (Telecom Italia)
  • U.K. – EE
  • U.S. – Sprint, Verizon

“The collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies has resulted in a new category for the PC – the Always Connected PC. It combines the connectivity and the simplicity of the smartphone with the power and creative capability of the Windows 10 PC, transforming how we work and play,” said Matt Barlow, corporate vice president, Windows and devices, Microsoft. “With the support of our mobile operator partners, consumers now have the opportunity to enjoy superfast connectivity over LTE networks at an affordable price, anytime and anywhere.”

If you’re always on the move, travelling around a lot or just void of any WiFi connectivity, then you should consider this range of devices. More carriers will add support for Always Connected PCs later this spring, but unless other major mobile carrier networks such as AT&T or T Mobile join in it would be a tough one to sell.

The PC industry has been changed. Tablets, Smartphones and even Smartwatches are becoming extremely powerful with their state-of-the-art processing capabilities.

Consumers who once preferred a traditional laptop are choosing slim, powerful notebooks that give them the flexibility to do everything, everywhere.

In 2018, true portability and productivity is knowing you have a single notebook that makes it possible to do what you can’t do with just a tablet or desktop. It’s thin enough to slip into your “go” bag. It’s light enough to carry all day, every day, and almost forget it’s there. It’s strong enough to endure the bumps in the road and the inevitable scrapes from the airport security bin.

To prove this, Samsung launched three ultraslim notebooks earlier today. Let’s have a look at them :

Samsung Notebook 9 Pen (with built-in S Pen) :

It’s more like a combination of Samsung’s earlier tablets and the Note series.

Perfected in Samsung Galaxy mobile devices, the battery-free S Pen replicates the ease, accuracy, and size of a real pen, so you can enjoy a natural writing and drawing experience – without having to ever charge it. Jot notes. Use CAD. Sketch freehand. If you want to work, create, design or draw, the Notebook 9 Pen puts no limit on how you can express yourself. It’s a whole new way to use your notebook PC.

Samsung Notebook 9 (2018) :

This notebook has the most powerful graphics in a very slim package. And it’s very light, too! Weighing no more than 2.84 pounds, Samsung is actually taking weight off your back and creating more room in your pack. The Notebook 9 (2018) has all the durability with none of the weight.  Better graphics mean that it would be pleasurable experience to consume media on this device with a big battery too.

Samsung Notebook 7 Spin (2018) :

This 2-in-1 convertible is the best affordable PC right now. If you’re always moving from home to office or from class to class, flexibility is the name of the game. With the Notebook 7 Spin (2018) you can flip easily from PC to tablet—and back, work anywhere—even in the dark—with the backlit keyboard, and use your Active Pen (sold separately) to express yourself in an entirely new way.

Samsung has now been focusing on PCs too and also trying to integrate their phones with Samsung DEX which is quite successful.

Google Pay will work everywhere.

Google says that apps like Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, HungryHouse, and Instacart already support Google Pay, with more sites and stores set roll out soon over the coming weeks.
