Microsoft today announced their “Office” app for iOS and Android that incorporates Word, Excel, and PowerPoint features in the single application. The new app, currently available as a preview, simplifies working with various types of documents while at the same time bringing in some new features to improve productivity.

Users no longer have to install each app separately, the tech giant revealed here at its “Ignite” flagship event.

The Office app provides a simple, integrated experience that puts the tools you need for working on a mobile device at the forefront of the experience. We started by combining the existing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint mobile apps into a single app. Doing so brings all of your Office documents together in one place, reduces the need to switch between multiple apps, and significantly reduces the amount of space used on your phone compared to multiple installed apps. We then added new capabilities that harness the strengths of mobile devices, such as the camera, to enable you to create content in uniquely mobile ways. Finally, we added a new Actions Pane that helps you accomplish many of the common mobile tasks you need to do all from one place.

The new Microsoft Office app has been launched as a public preview. It is now available to Android users through Google Play Store and to iOS users through Apple’s TestFlight programme.

The first 5G-capable iPhones from Apple, reportedly expected in the latter half of 2020, will be fitted with Qualcomm’s X55 5G modem.

Qualcomm unveiled its second-gen Snapdragon X55 5 G modem, claiming to be 40% faster than its predecessor, back in February just ahead of Barcelona’s annual Mobile World Congress. The announcement came while Apple and Qualcomm were still at odds, but the two decided to set aside their differences and drop all patent litigation around the world in the months to follow.

The 5G iPhone range will consist of three different models, sources told Nikkei, carrying Qualcomm’s 5 G modem chip. Apple and Qualcomm settled their patent battle in April, which was a major move for Apple to expand into 5G devices, covering several nations.

Analysts say that 5G iPhones may provide a boost to Apple’s iPhone sales, which have declined in recent years as customers keep their models longer. A recent survey by Piper Jaffray found that current users of the U.S. iPhone could hold out on the newly released iPhone 11 series, anticipating an upcoming 5G phone. The firm found 23 per cent of the 1,050 current iPhone owners surveyed would be upgraded to an IP of $1,200.

Since then, Apple has bought Intel’s smartphone modem business and hopes to build this important in-house element, a project that could take several years.

For the purposes of this post, Apple declined to comment. Qualcomm did not answer questions.

Apple AirPods Pro

At a press release today, Apple launched its long-rumored Apple AirPods Pro. Starting today itself, these pair of wireless earbuds are available for pre-orders. The cost of the pre-order is $249 only.

With a built-in microphone, the AirPods detects the sound and cancels it out. This implementation is similar to what we can see on Beats Solo Pro Headphones. As per Apple, the AirPods Pro can cancel noise up to 200 times per second.

This time, these earphones come with a transparency mode, which generally turns off the noise cancellation and let you hear around wearing them.

With their new Adaptive EQ, Apple promises that this will tune the music according to your ear shape. This time, there will be three different earbud sizes. And Apple is also having software for audio testing, to check which earbud size fits you, leaving the deduction pain behind.

Just like the current AirPods, you will get all the Siri functionality, along with 4.5hrs of listening time, and yes, the case will pack its own charging to charge them on the go.

These little guys are sweat and water-resistant, so take them with you on your HIITs or strength-training without worrying. The mesh filter will make your voice clear on windy days.

Although, they charge using the same Lightning Cable ( damn you, Apple ), but does come with a Lightning to USB Type-C cable inside the box.

Pixel 4, announced recently by Google, has a new biometric feature — well, new to Google, at least — unlock face. Like most modern biometric systems, it means that we are likely to write about security flaws in its implementation, and the first one has already appeared before even the phone is out. You don’t need to open your eyes to work in order to access the face of the Pixel 4. The vulnerability was first revealed by the engineering journalist of the BBC, Chris Fox, who was able to unlock face to work with their eyes closed on several men.

Google seems to be aware of the problem, noting on a Pixel 4 help page that: “Your mobile can also be unlocked by someone else if it is held up to your face, even if your eyes are closed. Keep your phone in a safe place, like your front pocket or handbag.”

Apple’s equivalent technology, Face ID on the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR and iPhone 11 series, Face ID, requires users to open their eyes to unlock the phone, and it’s quite clear why this is the case once you start thinking through it.

Last month Apple uncovered its latest iPhones iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The iPhone 11 Pro is the new peers of iPhone XS, iPhone 11 is the new generation of iPhone XR, and iPhone 11 Pro Max is the new generation of iPhone XS Max.

But if you are an owner of iPhone XS and you want to switch your iPhone 11 instead of the iPhone 11 Pro. In spite of everything, the Apple iPhone 11 comes in several colors, it is $300 less inexpensive and packs almost all of the similar high-end specifications as the 11 Pro.

Apple iPhone 11 vs iPhone XS

Here are some significant differences of iPhone 11 and iPone XS:

Size

One of the most major differences between these two devices is in fact their sizes. The iPhone 11 is 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm in measurement, whereas the iPhone XS is 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm. This possibly will not look like a big difference, but when you hold the two iPhones, you will most probably notice that the iPhone 11 is heavier, difficult to fit in your pocket, and harder to use with single hand. It feels big.

One more difference you will observe is bezels. The iPhone 11 has more noticeable bezels around the screen.

End note:

The XS is sleeker and slimmer.

Display

The iPhone XS has an outstanding 5.8-inch OLED screen with 2,436 x 1,125-pixel resolution. The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch LCD screen with 1,792 x 828-pixel resolution. However in this situation, bigger is not better.

The XS gives the amusing colors of just about any mobile available in the market. Reviewers have admired its nearly flawless blacks. The iPhone 11’s screen is not bad by any aspects, but an LCD panel cannot duplicate that contrast.

End note:

The iPhone XS has a good display.

Battery life

The iPhone 11 has an improved battery life over the XS. Tom’s Guide clocked the iPhone XS in at 9 hrs 41 min of nonstop web browsing, whereas the iPhone 11 taken 11 hrs 20 min. In addition, if you purchased the XS last year, you will have less battery life than the iPhone 11.

The iPhone 11 has improved battery life.

Price

If I told you which mobile to purchase immediately, the reply would be the iPhone 11. Its starts at $699, whereas the XS starts from $999.

However you already spent almost $1000 on the iPhone XS, so you would have to decide if its worth trading it in . The trade in value will surely make it a excellent deal  for the  iPhone 11. Eventually, you have to decide which device would be best for you.

End note:

The iPhone 11 is better value.

Camera

The XS has a good camera, however it is missing several features that may considerably improve the lives of photographers. If you’re one of those guys, you will have be excited to purchase iPhone 11.

Both the XS and 11 have a dual-camera system comprising a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens. The XS has a 12-MP telephoto lens, whereas the 11 has a 12-MP ultra-wide lens with a 120° field of view.

For iPhone photographers, the ultra-wide lens is perhaps the appreciated feature. If you need top-quality mobile pictures, you should avoid the zoom feature more than 2x mark.

End note:

The iPhone 11 has an improved front shooter.

Processor

The iPhone 11, as company claims, has the fastest handset processor across the globe. Reviews specify that the iPhone 11 has more powerful processor than the XS.

If you are a fan of mobile games you may see a minor difference in quality, but if you are most of the time, using your phone for browsing and texting, you definitely don’t want to pay for the additional power. If you are a photographer then processor matters a lot.

End note:

The iPhone 11 has an improved processor, but this generally matters for photographers

Verdict

If you are having an iPhone XS and not sure whether to upgrade, we will definitely say “NO”. The iPhone XS is an outstanding device with a good display than the latest iPhone 11. iPhone XS is much sleeker and slimmer and having good processor. Whereas iPhone 11 have improved battery life, bit faster than XS and comparatively cheaper. If you are a smartphone photographer we will recommend iPhone 11.

Instagram has launched its first standalone chat app for Android and iOS today. The app is Threads for Instagram. It is just another chat app from Instagram from Facebook.

The concept of the app is pretty straight forward. All you have to do is log in with your Instagram ID, and then have access to only chats. The good thing about it is, you can only get messages from Close Friends on Instagram, not from any random stranger as we have in Messengers.

Let me give you a small tour of Threads for Instagram.

When you download the app, you are greeted with the login screen

After login to your account, you are asked to select your close friends.

Although I haven’t selected any since I rarely use Instagram to talk to people, you can add by tapping on the right side checkbox.

Next comes the customization of the camera. You can select the default camera here.

Next comes the Status. You have access to several status options in the app. Also, there is a feature called Auto Status, which sets automatically, depending on your locations, and what you are doing right now.

Also, you can set the Status on your own. After setting up the app, it greets you with a camera interface. Now tap on the Home Button on top center. It will lead to your chat screen, with all chats with your close friends in a single place. And if you tap on the profile picture, you can set the status on your own.

And if you have turned on the Auto Status, you will also see a permanent notification on the status bar in Android.

Download the app: Play Store, App Store

Apple, in an attempt to move out its primary production in China, is ramping up its manufacturing units in India with over $1 Billion investment.

A report from The Times of India states that Apple will invest $1 billion in India through its “partners”. Foxconn is the main investment partner here, but others will join soon. Apple also plans to export “Assembled in India” iPhones to other countries.

Foxconn, Taiwan’s contract manufacturing behemoth and the biggest production partner for Apple globally, will be investment partner for the iPhone maker’s latest push. Its factory in Chennai will be used to manufacture products for Apple’s global markets. Also, a host of component suppliers to the company will be making investments in the region for the local push.

Apple is also looking forward to opening the country’s first brick-and-mortar retail store, but also said that it will “take some time.” The news came after the fact that the Government of India eased rules on foreign companies looking to establish a retail presence.

Apple also confirmed the report.

We love our customers in India and we’re eager to serve them online and in-store with the same experience and care that Apple customers around the world enjoy. We appreciate the support and hard work by Prime Minister Modi and his team to make this possible, and we look forward to one day welcoming customers to India’s first Apple retail store. It will take us some time to get our plans under way, and we’ll have more to announce at a future date.

Even though Apple wants its retail presence really soon in India, it is surely not going to happen overnight. Modern Apple Stores are beyond just retail stores. And it takes a lot of planning to open one. The statement clarifies that the urgency to expand in India won’t compromise location choice and design.

Keep following us for more details.

iPhone 11 Pro Max

Apple just announced its new iPhones at Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino. We know that the iPhone 11 is the latest, but there are two more iPhones launched this morning. The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max feature improved specs and sophisticated tech.

Both the devices look very similar to last year’s iPhone Xs and Xs Max. But they have one major change – a third camera.

Pro Camera?

The cameras on these devices are the biggest features this year. The third lens is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view. It joins the wide-angle and the telephoto lens which were present on the Xs as well.

The telephoto camera is now improved with a larger ƒ/2.0 aperture, which Apple says will capture up to 40 percent more light compared to the XS camera. The front camera is the same as that of the iPhone 11 – a 12 MP sensor which can also shoot slofie (we know…) and in 4K as well.

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max also get the Night Mode. You can read more about it here.

FaceID on all the three iPhones is now twice as fast. It also works on greater angles. Apple is also (finally!!) including a faster 18W charger inside the box.

The iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999, and the Max starts at $1,099. There are 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. You can preorder starting Friday, September 13th, at 8 AM ET /5 AM PT, and shipping will start a week later on September 20th.

Here’s the introduction video.

In the Apple Keynote today at the Steve Jobs theatre, Apple unveiled the iPhone 11. The new iPhone comes with a lot of upgrades but doesn’t have the OLED screen as it’s predecessors. Instead, it has an LCD or what Apple calls as a Liquid Retina display.

This is perhaps the best LCD display Apple has ever put in an iPhone. Just like XR, the iPhone 11 might have a slightly lower resolution display. iPhone XR was the best selling iPhone last year. And it proves that numbers on paper don’t matter.

A13 Bionic – The Fastest CPU and GPU in Any Smartphone

While numbers don’t matter, Apple also made sure to flaunt their new processor – the A13 Bionic. They compared the power of the A13 chip with other flagships processors like the Snapdragon 855.

The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch display. The design is very similar to the XR. Except that this year, there’s a wide-angle lens as well!

iPhone 11 – The Phone with Two Camera Bumps

The camera module on the new iPhone is upgraded. It now comes with dual cameras instead of a single lens like the XR. We already have seen that Apple can also do portrait shots without the telephoto lens. Which is why there’s one wide-angle camera and another ultra-wide camera both with 12 MP sensors.

Apple has changed the camera interface with iOS 13 as well. The camera now has an immersive view when you switch to ultra-wide so that you can see the details of your photos. There’s also a Night Mode which is similar to what we’ve seen on Samsung and Google flagships recently. The neural network on the A13 Bionic combines multiple images for lower noise and increased stability and most importantly – more light.

Night Mode on the iPhone 11
Night Mode on the iPhone 11

Interestingly enough, Apple didn’t want to create a really huge camera bump. So, they went with two bumps instead. The whole square camera module on the iPhone 11 is a bump. Then there are separate bumps for each of the two lenses.

iPhone 11 Camera

This is one clever design choice, but it clearly won’t stop your phone from rattling over your desk.

Coming to the front, there’s still the old-school notch with the FaceID sensors. But FaceID is now twice as fast! The front camera also gets a new Slo-mo mode, which Apple wants to call Slofie but we don’t.

The iPhone 11 will last an hour longer than the XR. It also has IP68 water resistance rating upto 2 meters, whereas the XR was IP67 rated.

Apple is pricing the iPhone 11 starting at $699, and shipping will start on September 20th. You can preorder starting Friday, September 13th at 5 AM PT /8 AM ET.

You can watch the introduction video below because we liked the music.
