Google keeps on adding features to its voice assistant, the Google Assistant, every day. Google is also trying to implement one new feature into the Assistant so that the device remains hands-free. And you can send the text messages easily. Even without touching/unlocking your phone!

As per a report by 9to5Google, the new A/B testing of the Assistant has started. and this testing is currently server-side. So, you may or may not get the feature. The latest testing has showcased a feature using which you can send your text, mind you, via your voice command to anyone. That too, on the lock screen itself!

As per the report suggests, the command ‘send a text’ seemed to be working on the lock screen. And the feature somehow came with the Google App Beta update version 10.28. Since it is an A/B Server-Side testing, you might not get this feature.

Also, somehow Google rollbacked the feature, thus removing it from the app completely. Currently, if you try a similar feature, the phone will ask you to unlock the device first. This feature changed from the days of Oreo actually.

Right now, it has been rolled back. Therefore, making it unclear if Google will make this feature rollout worldwide, or kill it entirely.

Android Q is about to release net month, and we know so much of the feature before the release. This new feature wasn’t well-known before today. This new feature will make it easier to monitor your earbuds easier.

The Google Fair Pair feature will get a new and major update in the upcoming Android Q. Also, the feature will get a dedicated page to manage the wireless headphones that are supported by Fair Pair.

The Fair Pair will help you manage the truely wireless headphones directly through your phone and let you even check the battery level of the same. Also, you can monitor when the case is opened/closed and how much it still has.

Also, the earbuds supported by Fair Pair will also show up in the Find My Device section as well. This new feature will also get its own UI in the upcoming Android Q.

As per The Verge, several earbuds will be supported by Fair Pair, which includes Google Pixel Buds, Bose QuietComfort 35 II, etc. This means there can be several other features that can come when the Android Q is launched by Google next month.

You can find the list of entire supported earbuds here.

Google has finally released the Android Q Beta 5 update today. The update brings several changes and tweaks to the gestures on the Android Q. This is going to be the second last beta update before Google releases the update for OEMs and Pixels as an official update in coming days. Let’s dive into what this update actually brings.

Back in Beta 3, Google introduced the Gestures system, which does have an app-conflict when going backward or says back to some previous actions, in the current app. Now to remove this conflict, Google introduces the Peek Navigation. As per changelogs:

For apps using a navigation drawer, we’ve added a peek behavior when users have grabbed the drawer to indicate that a swipe will bring in the navigation drawer. This works for all versions of DrawerLayout, with DrawerLayout 1.1.0-alpha02 optimized for the best experience.

Also, there is a change to invoke the Assistant. Since the Home key is missing here, there is a new gesture for invoking it. You have to swipe from a corner to invoke the Assistant.

Android Q Beta 5 on Pixel 3a

There is some changes to the support for third-party launchers as well. Starting from Android Pie, the third-party launchers never behaved properly on gestures. So for time-being on Android Q Beta 5, Google is bringing back the software keys (traditional Home, Recent Apps and Back) when using the third party launchers. As for the further changes, Google mentions:

We’ll address the remaining issues in a post-launch update so those users can switch to gestural navigation. We’ll be working with our device-maker partners to include with their devices shipping or updating to Android Q.

Precaution before installing Android Q Beta 5

For the time, the Beta 6 and beyond, you will have to manage with the soft navigation keys, unless you decide to switch to stock launcher.

By the time you read this post, You Pixel might have started getting the Android Q update.

This is a Beta update. So you might face some more bugs than the previous Beta update. Make sure that you have backed up all your data prior to the update, so that at the time, if the device fails, and you rolled back, you can get your data back.

A few more months to go before Google officially launches Pixel 4 and 4 XL, new leaks from OnLeaks gives us a fresh look at new renders. These renders are generated from CAD schematics given to case makers so they are pretty much close to the final product. Last month only, Google showed off the rear section of Pixel 4 on twitter. Now the new renders show that the device will not have that big notch the previous version had. Also, there is no fingerprint scanner at the back and right-hand side of the top bezel might contain sensors for a feature like iPhone’s Face ID.  The device will not have a 3.5mm audio jack and the expected display size is to be around 6.25-inch diagonally.

The upcoming Android Q Beta 5 will have some new things incoming. As per a video from a Reddit member, somehow got hands on the Beta. He shares a video about the features of the Beta 5. The Video shows new animations of Google Assistant as well as new gestures of Beta 5.

As you already know, the interesting part of this new OS will be the animations, gestures and much more (even those we don’t know of yet).

The Redditor did notice many changes in the animation and also adds that there are some changes to the icon animations. For eg: the rotation icon on the notification panel, has a new animation as well. The Android Q Beta 5 is going to be interesting. Although, not that much, but yes, it will be.

To understand what actually I’m trying to say, watch this video:

The device will be running on clean stock android like always. It has a notch on top and 48 MP camera at the back. New leaks suggest that this smartphone will be a mid-range device with Snapdragon 660 chipset with a FullHD+ display and 3500 battery.

Anyone who tinkers with their Android smartphone knows how great Google Camera app is. XDA developers have been dedicating themselves to port it for other devices for the last few years. Recently they discovered references to a rear telephoto camera while scouring through the version 6.3 of the app. They said a “SABRE_UNZOOMED_TELEPHOTO” field was present there which Google internally uses as a name for Super Res Zoom feature. It is not fully clear if Google is opting for a telephoto camera over the ultra-wide rear camera, But they might follow Huawei and use both telephoto camera and super-resolution to produce a more detailed result. XDA also found a reference to “IR sensor” which might hint at google bring facial recognition like Apple.

Night Sight

Yesterday we reported with the new gesture navigation in the leaked Android Q, this new feature is pretty interesting. The Night Sight on Google Pixel is moved to the Google Camera App.

This makes way for the GCam port to have the Night Sight for several supported devices, which is great.

In the upcoming Google Camera 6.3, the option will reside in place of the age-old panorama. Also, both of them have replaced each other’s positions.

Another update is the Potrait mode. On the previous update, the Screen Flash was used as the front facing flash. In which the screen illuminates to act as a front facing flash. However, the feature has been renamed to Illumination, which actually makes sense now.

Moreover, some extra small tweaks have been seen. The update removes the white balance/ color temperature option removed. The available presets are Auto, Cloudy, Sunny, Fluorescent & Tungsten.

A recently leaked but unreleased Android Q build suggests that the OS will have a customizable back sensitivity gesture onboard. One of the Pixel 3 XL users recently reports to 9to5Google, stating about the unreleased Android Q beta build.

The mentioned beta build comes with August Security Patch, instead of the July Patch. Which happens in general. However, this new unreleased build might be the final beta build before Google releases the OS to OEMs in Q3’19.

This new addition might finally make Android work on gestures, instead of usual navigations keys. However, navigations keys will exist, in case, anyone feels gestures being weird.
