You can now use RCS messaging in Google Messages in UK and France
Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a communication protocol between mobile telephone carriers and between phone and carrier, aiming at replacing SMS messages with a text-message system that is richer, provides phonebook polling (for service discovery), and can transmit in-call multimedia.
Google has now finally brought RCS messaging feature on their message app for those living in the UK and France, though you need to have the messaging app as default. Besides that, for now, you can only use the feature in Google Pixel and if only it has a sim card inside. Other devices will show “Chat features unavailable for this device”. 9to5Google notes that the app does not tell if a message has failed to send. Also, it won’t work on wifi data. There is also a typing notification like they have in most of the modern messaging apps. The features also work on the browser client of Google’s Messanger app.
