Instagram was testing a new feature with a small number of users. But it took them two hours to realize that the users were not a few but many. Many Instagram users around the globe got furious with the design and tweeted out how they feel about this update. Fortunately, Instagram realized this bug soon enough and rolled back the update.
Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.

Instagram Head Alex Health confirmed the issue and explained what his team was trying to do. They were attempting to test the feature with a small percentage of users, but the bug caused a much broader rollout to a few orders of magnitude more people than planned,
Sorry about that, this was supposed to be a very small test but we went broader than we anticipated. 😬

However, all the mess is now resolved and users can go back to the bug-free version of Instagram. Hopefully, Instagram has got enough feedback and won’t try to mess with the scrolling anytime soon.
