Samsung Finally Announces its Foldable Phone

It's Finally Here!

After years of testing and weeks of teasing, Samsung finally announced its foldable phone at SDC 2018. Samsung says that the foldable phone is a combination of a phone and a tablet. Samsung’s Senior VP  Justin Denison demonstrated on Wednesday.

Samsung says that the device will launch in the coming months. However, the device they showed on stage was just another prototype and not the final product. The phone will run on Samsung One UI and is also officially supported by Google.

“The foldable display lays the foundation for a new kind of mobile experience. We are excited to work with developers on this new platform to create new value for our customers. We cannot wait to see where the technology and collaboration takes us,” DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT and Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics, said in a statement.

Samsung’s foldable phone has the Infinity Flex Display which lets users open and close it without any degradation.  Samsung says that it “invites developers to participate in this journey from the beginning.” This means Samsung and developers will work together until the final product is launched.
Unfortunately, Samsung phones will also join the “notch” family. During the keynote, the firm showed several notch designs that are indeed coming to Samsung-branded smartphones beginning in 2019.
However, Samsung is not the only one making a foldable device. Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei and even Microsoft are all working towards the same. But the first one to bring them to the market is still Samsung.
