The Google Assistant is getting a major visual overhaul that integrates touch into the UI built around voice. For example, if you ask Google to dim the lights, you will get a slider so as to fine-tune the result.
The update brings Material Design changes to the app. The new design strategy makes certain visual elements bigger, more informative, and easier to read at a glance.
The visual design change is based upon the fact that it can be a lot easier to digest information visually. As for Google, it has been pushing the Assistant to a lot of Smart Displays. JBL and Lenovo already have the Google Assistant powered Smart Displays and the new design language would be a visual appeal for these big screens. You can swipe up the Assistant to get an overview of your day and recent voice interactions.
