Samsung Galaxy S7 Android 8.0 Update Delayed Until May
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge will likely receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo by May 18, as suggested by Güncelmiyiz, a Turkish website managed by the South Korean smartphone manufacturer. The two devices were originally scheduled to receive Android Oreo by mid-April but the new firmware is still being tested as of today, according to the same source. The said release date of the software updates could be specific only to the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge models in Turkey, while the unlocked variants of the devices in other markets could receive the upgrade at a later date. The Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 models are also likely to receive start receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade on different dates.
The new OS version brings features such as a Picture-in-Picture mode, notification dots, and enhanced autofill capabilities. The Picture-in-Picture mode allows users to view two applications at the same time by showing one application in a smaller window that is placed on top of another app. On the other hand, the notification dots functionality informs you which apps have notifications waiting for you right from the home screen. Tapping the notification dots will open a set of quick in-app actions related to the notifications as well. The improved autofill feature aims to reduce the time spent on logging into websites and applications by remembering important information like usernames and passwords and offering to input it automatically in a more consistent manner.
