While it’s still likely several weeks away from the OnePlus 6 being announced, we already have a pretty good picture of the device. After divulging that its next handset would indeed include a notch in the screen for the camera, the company has dropped a few more tantalizing details about its next phone, and it’s taking yet another cue from Apple’s iPhone X.
As far the specifications go the OnePlus 6 is coming with the Snapdragon 845 chip, the OnePlus 6 will pack 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Those specs are likely for the step-up model of the OnePlus 6, which traditionally costs $60 more than the base model, but they’re impressive nonetheless. This model could push the price towards the $600 mark.
In a new post on the forum today, Lau explained that this notch-hiding feature had been decided against earlier in the development of the OnePlus 6, but the company is taking a U-turn in response to vociferous commenters.
“A black-out feature was seriously considered in the early stages of the development of the OnePlus 6. At the time we decided against adding this feature. We wanted to focus all of our time and resources on delivering an exceptional full-screen experience. I still believe the best way to experience the OnePlus 6 is using the full potential of the display. Recently many users have raised interest in having a black-out function. We respect your feedback, and would like to give everyone the ability to choose. This function will enable you to black out the background of the notifications and status bar. It will be added in a future software update released after the launch of the OnePlus 6. Look forward to sharing this new update with you all. Thank you for making us better!”
– Pete Lau, OnePlus CEO
Its great that OnePlus is listening to the customers and giving the users an option to hide the notch if they want to, just like Huawei is doing with its P20 series.
The Avengers Edition
OnePlus got a lot of Star Wars fans excited last year when it rolled out a limited edition variant of the OnePlus 5T with Star Wars branding, and it looks like the company is set to do a similar collaboration with a Hollywood franchise with the OnePlus 6.
The video below is uploaded by OnePlus India on their Facebook page. The teaser intercuts between the OnePlus and Avengers logos, and reveals the release date of the upcoming Avengers movie.
With Avengers: Infinity War set to hit theaters on April 27, it’s possible we’ll see the OnePlus 6 make its debut at around the same time.
In a post announcing the specs, Lau talked about delivering a “burdenless experience” for the OnePlus 6 to create “a lasting impression of speed and smoothness, throughout all-day use.” To help accomplish that goal, OnePlus assembled a group of engineers called Team FSE (which stands for Fast, Stable, Efficient), whose sole focus, Lau says, is on “maximizing the power of our flagship devices.”
Rounding up, OnePlus 6 is going to be one of the best competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S9, iPhone X and the other flagships available.
