In the month of January, HMD Global announced that they would push the Android Oreo 8.0 update for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 handsets. A month later, they push the 8.1 update to the devices.
The update should be expanded worldwide in the coming days. HMD Global is currently leading when it comes to release of latest version of Android. While most smartphone makers are still struggling to release Android Oreo update, the Finnish startup has jumped to Android 8.1.
With the release of Android 8.1 Oreo for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, Nokia 2 and Nokia 3 become the only two devices in company’s portfolio that are yet to receive the latest version.
The report states that Android 8.1 Oreo update weighs in at 860MB for Nokia 5 while the download size of the update is 930MB for Nokia 6. Along with Android 8.1 Oreo update, HMD Global is also including security patch for the month of March. The update also brings other changes including battery saving navigation buttons, revamped power menu, new settings menu and Bluetooth battery percentage.
HMD Global has also confirmed that all the smartphones launched last year under the Nokia-brand will receive Android P this year. The company debuted its products with timely software updates as the major USP and at MWC last month, it doubled down on those belief by announcing that all smartphones from Nokia 3 and beyond will join the Android One program.
Nokia is doing a great job by providing the updates on time and not delaying like other OEMs. Such support from companies is what we are looking for.
