Google’s Phone app’s new update adds transcriptions for voicemail for T-Mobile users

Google has updated its Android Phone app with voicemail transcriptions. This transcriptions for voicemail is exclusive to  T-Mobile users as of now.

Google uses it’s speech-to-text services to transcribe the voicemail messages. This is similar to what Google Voice has been offereing for long. However, the accuracy of transcribed text depends upon the clarity of voice, as with any other speech recognition software.

Other changes included in update:

• Google-powered voicemail transcription for T-Mobile USA users
• Support for cyrillic in smart search (T9 dialing)
• Bug fixes and performance improvements

The voicemail transcription service is only limited to T-Mobile users in USA. Other carriers may get the same feature soon, but till then Android users in USA can use Google Voice for voicemail transcription.
