Google recently opened new physical retail stores up in Canada to sell its Pixel 2 device. It seems they’re going to try same strategy in India to boost up the sales of Pixel 2 smartphone.
According to report by Economic Times, Google has contacted atleast two prominent malls in India for a more permanent place for Google to set up stores. Google had set up pop-up stores in past at locations such as High Street Phoenix in Mumbai, and Select Citywalk, Promenade, Mall of India in Delhi-NCR to demonstrate Pixel 2 phones better to the customers. The pop-up stores were successful for Google hence the more permanent physical locations.
Online shopping experience lacks the hands-on experience which offline brick and mortar stores can well provide. An actual hands-on demo for customer can prove to be more useful marketing technique than thousands of online ads. Google even set up dark rooms at pop up stores to show the quality of low light images captured by Pixel 2.
Google had apparently also hired a senior Apple Executive for the project. The project will not only cover Pixel 2 but also its other hardware products including Pixel range of smartphones and laptops, Home speakers and VR headsets. With India potentially being a large market for Andriod smartphones Google is probably looking to invest more into its products.
