Spotify arrives on Xbox One

The Spotify app for the Xbox One will be available today for download from the Xbox Store; the app is already visible but some users are reporting that the download isn’t live just yet. Microsoft is playing catch up in regards to Spotify as the app has been available on PlayStation since 2015 as a console exclusive.

Spotify should be available in 34 markets today on Xbox One, including the UK, U.S., Germany, and France. Xbox gamers will get full access to the Spotify catalog, including the ability to use Spotify as a source of background music, with the added bonus of being able to control Spotify for Xbox from the associated mobile and PC apps.

The app, which is available for download from the Xbox Store, works both for free Spotify users as well as those who pay for the Premium version of the service. “Music continues to be essential when creating the ultimate gaming experience”, said Mikael Ericsson, Product Director, Platform & Partner Experience at Spotify, in a statement about the launch. “Starting today, we’re really excited to offer Xbox One gamers the ability to choose their own unique soundtrack while enjoying their favorite games.”
