Samsung Galaxy S8 Active arrives in the US this week, won’t be an AT&T exclusive forever

After the last few weeks of leaks, it has finally been announced. Samsung’s new Galaxy S8 Active will be available for pre-order tomorrow, August 8th, as a limited-time exclusive for AT&T. In-store availability for AT&T will start this upcoming Friday, August 11th. If you are interested, try to keep your current phone dry until them. The Galaxy S8 Active will run you $28.34 a month for 30 months via AT&T Next®.

The device is bound by a metal frame and a bumper to shield it from shocks, while the back cover “has a rugged, tough texture for a secure grip.” The phone also features Bixby — with the voice assistant’s home screen including quick access to a stopwatch, barometer, compass, and flashlight. The screen is a 5.8-inch quad HD super AMOLED display with a 18.5:9 aspect ratio, but unfortunately — no infinity edge.

Sadly, Samsung has ditched the infinity display for the rugged nature of the device. However, it makes the phone more durable and rugged. Interestingly, Samsung says that AT&T will have exclusivity over the S8 Active only “for a limited time.” This means we could see the phone being released via other carriers, or/and unlocked at some point.
