WhatApp for Windows Phone (the non-beta general release app) has received a major update which brings it closer to the beta version of the same app. The update adds many new features to the app, which were recently being tested in the WhatsApp beta.
The update, version 188.8.131.52 notably includes following features:
- Option to pin Chats to the top on the main page, as described here.
- Share location live to a contact or group for a limited time.
- Preview videos before you actually download them.
While this update was long overdue, there’s still some features missing in WhatsApp for Windows Phone when compared to the Android equivalent. Revoke, for example, is available in WhatsApp for Andriod (not yet though, just disabled by the server and waiting to be activated) and Rich notifications on WhatsApp for iOS is under development, but there has been no such major featured update out for Windows Phone in a while. While Microsoft plans to introduce CShell to Windows platform which only runs UWP apps, WhatsApp which currently is a Silverlight will be left out. Unless WhatsApp developers have a solution planned, we might have to bid WhatsApp goodbye from Windows 10 Platform forever.
