OneDrive Files On-Demand Comes back to Windows 10

OneDrive Placeholders are back on Windows 10 as Announced by Microsoft at Build 2017, but it seems like Microsoft doesn’t want to call it by the same name again. OneDrive Placeholders are now OneDrive Files On-Demand, a better and less confusing name. If you are a Windows insider on fast ring, you can try it now on the latest build of Windows 10.

OneDrive Files On-Demand works the same way as OneDrive Placeholders mostly. Once you add your OneDrive account to your PC, OneDrive will show all your files in your file explorer, but won’t download them actually saving a lot of space. It will download only when you open a file or a folder.

Now you will be thinking that what if you need to keep your files offline, Microsoft has also come up with a solution for  this. You can click on “Always keep on this device” in order to keep your files offline. You can also see which files are on OneDrive and which files are downloaded by the cloud icon.

OneDrive Files On-Demand is available for Fast Ring insiders and will be available to general public by Windows 10 Fall Creators Update this September .
