Troubleshoot installation problem with Windows 10 Mobile 14342
Yesterday Microsoft has finally released a new build of Windows 10 Mobile. As usual you can download the new build if you are on the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider Program. This is again a part of the Anniversary update which is planned for a release on the 29th of July. Therefor the new build is bringing performance and stability improvements but also a few nice new features which make the operating system more feature complete. For a list of new features, head over to our article: Windows 10 Mobile build 14342
However, since this is a build of Windows 10 Mobile for the fast ring it is also bringing a few known issues. One of the known issues is a problem concerning the installation of the new build. If you are installing this build on a phone it can happen that you phone is stuck on the windows logo, once it is trying to restart after the installation. Gabriel Aul has added a solution for that problem in his article about the new build at the Windows Blog. This solution recommended you to simply wait for 30 to 40 minutes after the installation, after that your phone should restart normally.
Unfortunately this is not working for everyone and the phone just keeps displaying the Windows Logo. As you might know, there is a way how you can force a restart of your phone by pressing volume control, power and home button for a specific time and in a specific order. So if you experiencing problems with the installation of the latest build, use the easy steps below for troubleshooting:
- Press and Hold Volume Down Button + Power Button for about 11 seconds.
- Screen turns black, phone vibrates, restarting.
- Installation should be continued.
If your phone is still stuck at the Windows boot logo after you have gone through the three steps above, wait for another 30 minutes to see if your phone is finishing the installation. Otherwise you will have to try the three steps above once again.
I have installed the latest build of Windows 10 Mobile on a Lumia 930 and a Lumia 950 but didn’t have a problem with one of the two phones. Feel free to drop me a comment below if you keep experiencing this problem or if this method helped you to fix things. Stay tuned for more Microsoft related news in the future.
