Now you can now test the preview of the previously promised plugin-free Skype video calling on Microsoft’s incredible web browser, Microsoft Edge. Microsoft has just announced the first preview of plugin-free Skype video calling on Edge.
They have announced a new plugin-free voice, video, and group video calling experience on Skype for Web, Outlook.com, Office Online, and OneDrive, powered by the ORTC API in Microsoft Edge. You can preview this experience by visiting Skype for Web in Microsoft Edge today on EdgeHTML version 13.10586 or newer, available with Windows 10 version 1511. As per the Microsoft, Plugin-free calling in Edge is the first step towards an interoperable, standards-based calling experience in Skype and Skype for Business, so that Skype users on any modern platform can communicate without the need for plugins or downloads.
Advantage of plugin free calling in certain calling scenarios from Microsoft’s Edge browser first:
- All Skype one-to-one and group voice and video calls to and from Microsoft Edge browsers are plugin free.
- All Skype one-to-one calls from Microsoft Edge to the latest versions of Skype for Windows and Skype for Mac are plug in free.
There are some drawbacks also here because it is early preview, read below :
