S7s

Today was the day.

Samsung officially unveiled the S7 and S7 Edge in AMAZING VIRTUAL REALITY this morning while most of us were sleeping, and essentially confirmed everything that we have seen and heard from the leaks the last couple of weeks. The phone seems to be returning to a more curved “Galaxy S3-Esque” design from years past, and addresses the primary issues present in the Galaxy S6, mainly battery and expandable storage. To cut right to the chase, here are the official specs of both devices:

As you can see, this is about as high end as you can get at the moment, and has specs extremely similar to that of the LG G5. The S7 and S7 Edge also have the exact same specifications, spare the 5.1″ vs 5.5″ QHD displays, and the 3,000 mAh vs 3,600 mAh battery in the S7 and S7 Edge respectively. It’s pretty great to see such a large leap in the specifications of 2016’s new flagships, and the re-addition of expandable storage in top of the line devices is welcomed wholeheartedly.

That being said, Samsung needed to add expandable storage if they wanted to create a device completely ready for the VR craze, and they’re doing just that. If you pre-order the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge at Samsung’s site, you’ll get a free Gear VR. That’s actually a pretty great value, effectively reducing the price of the device by $150 if you were planning on picking up the bundle anyways. This is also a very smart move by Samsung, since even though Virtual Reality is a very, very cool new technology, it has been having a significantly hard time getting off the ground.
