VLC Media Player private beta is now accessible publicly which makes it also available for users of the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview
The VLC Team is working since a while now on a VLC Media Player for Windows Phone. The app is already availablew in the Windows Phone App Store to download it, however the team is still working on the app and therefor they do even have a private beta where selected candidates can test the app before it gets published.
They had to publish the Beta since the couldn’t release the app on the regular app because of an store issue. The Windows Phone app store didn’t want to accept the new version number which should have been published.
The team around Thomas Nigro which is responsible for the VLC Media Player app has said the following to this situation:
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t release it on our main distribution channel because of an odd Windows Store issue (version number problem). As the amount of users asking for an update is tremendous, I decided to use our Private Beta channel and transform it to a Public Beta channel.”
“The Public Beta channel works like Facebook and Facebook Beta. The first one is stable, well tested and should be OK for everyone, while the second brings new features, bug fixes … and potential new bugs. Facebook Beta is hidden, and you can download it only via a link -> Same for VLC Beta. It also means the VLC Beta channel will get updates more often.”
One new feature of the latest VLC Media Player app is the support for Windows 10 Mobile. So you can head over to the app store by clicking on the app logo or scanning the qr code and install the latest version of the app on your Windows 10 Mobile device.
