Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview 10136 Goes Live, First Need to Roll Back to 8.1!

A new build of Windows 10 Mobile has been rolled out to those on the Windows Insider program, but as discussed yesterday, those wanting to try the new software will have to restore their devices to Windows Phone 8.1.

Build 10136, which brings previews of universal Office apps, can now be installed if you are on the “Fast” ring. As mentioned above you first need to roll back to Windows Phone 8.1 using the Microsoft Recovery Tool (download HERE) on a PC. Once you have restored your device and set up the Windows Insider app the update should be available by going to Settings, scrolling down to Phone Update and pressing check for updates box.

There is something important to take into consideration when first starting up after the update, as Gabriel Aul points out in the release notes:

“At the end of the upgrade the Lock screen will appear frozen without the date and time for up to 10 minutes. Please be patient and let it sit – eventually the date and time will appear and it will allow you to unlock your phone. There is a post-upgrade migration status screen missing, which normally would show you that it was making progress. If you get impatient and restart or mess with locking/unlocking your phone, you’ll wind up in a funky state – so just relax and let it do its thing.”

It shouldn’t be too long til the next update to Windows 10 Mobile gets released, a new version, 10145 is already in testing.
