Is this the leaked image of the Lumia 1020 successor?
When the Nokia Lumia 1020 was released way back in July 2013, it became the best smartphone with a camera and more than a year later, it still is.
It has been a year and half since its release though and Lumia 1020 owners and other WP/camera enthusiasts are clamouring for a successor to this beast.
There were rumours of a 3D touch based Lumia successor to the 1020, codenamed McLaren, but them there was the sad news it got cancelled. In hindsight, I believe Microsoft might have cancelled it either because the technology was ready yet or they wanted to focus on low/mid range Lumia devices as they have done since then.
Well, today we have got images of what appears to be a prototype of a Lumia 1020 successor, it’s the same form factor with the huge camera hump…
As you can see from the images, this is clearly a prototype, with an all aluminum housing (like the Nokia N8) a huge camera hump like its predecessor and a plastic strip at the bottom (this is most likely the antennae housing)
There is no news as to whether this is the botched McLaren device or if indeed this will be the successor to the Lumia 1020, I hope it isn’t the latter, as you can see it only has a dual-LED flash and no Xenon flash, but it is just a prototype so there could be significant hardware changes when the final product it ready.
It does run on old Windows Phone 8.1 firmware (as seen in the photos) but that’s the firmware being tested at the time these photos were taken.
Also from the photos, we can see that it is a 5 inch display with HD 1080p resolution (1920×1080), 32GB storage and 2GB RAM.
No indication of what processor it uses.
The good news is we will see a Lumia 1020 successor, hopefully sooner than later.
What do you think? Are you anxious to get this device in your hands or would you like it to look a bit different?
