New Gear S Smartwatch by Samsung Navigated By Here Maps

While neither Microsoft nor Apple have released even one smartwatch, Samsung is on the way to release its 4th smartwatch but this time it is a bit different then the times before.

The Gear S will have a build in 3G Modem, what means that it is independent from WiFi or a via Bluetooth connected smartphone. You will be able o send and receive sms, phone calls, emails whenever you want, except when you do not have a data connection. The device will feature a 2″ AMOLED display, 4GB internal storage, 512MB of RAM and a 1GHz Dual Core processor plus there will be a GPS, heart rate and motion sensor and IP67 water & dust resistant certification. All powered by a 300mAh battery, according to Samsung, the Gear S can last up to two days.

The OS will not be Google’s Android, this time Samsung is using its own Tizen OS for the smartwatch, and maybe it is only because they did not want to ask Google because they have not used Android for it, I don’t know, but they are using Nokia’s HERE Maps service for turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation which are pretty good news for the HERE Team I guess. It is also good that other manufacturers are realizing that there is still an alternative to Google. The HERE Services are also remaining as an important part of Nokia so hopefully more companies will choose these mapping service in the near future.

Samsung will also present a new Headset at the IFA in Berlin which is called Gear Circle, this headset gives you the ability to hear notifications, use voice commands or simply listen to music for at least 11 hours.

Both devices will be available at the beginning of October but Samsung has not mentioned any prizes yet for the two devices. What do you think of these two new gadgets, let me know in comments below.
