Video: Jailbroken Lumia 920 With Extra LiveTiles
A video has shown up on the YouTube account WindowsMania.pl showing a Lumia 920 running with “Jailbroken” software allowing a number of tweaks, most notably the home screen running with the third column of LiveTile, as is found on the Lumia 1520.
The video, hosted by a Chinese developer named poandsoul and spoken in what seems to be Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese?) also shows some other tweaks, for example an “updateapp” app which gives you a list of the apps on your phone which have an update available in one convenient column. We also see poandsoul plug his device into his PC and the files in Windows Explorer, but I am not totally sure what this was about.
You can watch the video yourself below and see for yourself.
If you want to find out more about this Jailbreak, you may want to take a look at WPCentral’s forum HERE, it is from their Lumia 920 Jailbreaking Video thread that we have taken this Q&A section:
FIRST: What does jailbreak mean?
1: High-privilege apps from third-parties
including but not limited to:
File manager, Calls attribution, typing method
SECOND: Does jailbreak bring negative effects?
As a developer, @poandsoul thinks that the purpose of jailbreaking is only to build a cydia-like app store, which allows developers to develop add-ons to improve experience of windows phone platform.
Thus, you can imagine, it will increase the enthusiasm of developers, to created apps that satisfies user’s needs.
Third: How long does it take to jailbreak?
As I mentioned above, the jailbreak will be released whenever the software is mature enough.
Looks interesting for anyone wishing Windows Phone had a “cydia-like” app store, or wishing the extra tiles found on Nokia’s 6 inch Windows Phone devices (Lumia 1320 and 1520) were available to other Windows Phone 8 phones, though I wonder if this option may come around officially at some point. Time will tell.
