Asha 501 Update Rolling Out, Bringing Whatsapp To the Platform
While those on the Windows Phone 8 platform have been enjoying some big name apps arriving on their phones in the last day or two, Asha 501 users shouldn’t feel too left out, as one of the biggest apps out there is now available on the platform, Whatsapp.
The messaging app with over 200 million users is coming with the big update to the platform, which is now rolling out to devices as an Over the Air Update. To check if it is ready to be downloaded to your Asha 501, carry out the following steps, if you haven’t already received a notification:
1.Go to “settings” then “phone update”.
2.Use mobile data to check for the update. Make sure you’re on Wifi to make the process as fast and smooth as possible.
3.Press “update” and presto – you will see the download progress, which takes just a few minutes.
4.When the update is done, a WhatsApp launcher will appear on your home screen. Press this to download and install the full app.
5.Still unsure? Learn more about the SW update here.
Whatsapp isn’t the only new feature coming with the update, Nokia have uploaded a walkthrough video to their YouTube channel, which you can watch below.
Whatsapp will come preinstalled on Nokia Asha 501 straight from the factory from now on, as well as on the 500, 502 and 503 when they get released.

As I write this post the update has just come through on my 501, what seemed to prompt it was switching off – then back on the “Use Mobile Data” option. I will be back with my thoughts on the update soon.
