Nokia Lumia 520 AT&T Initial Thoughts
What better way to find out? So yesterday I went to the AT&T Store at the Mall to snag one which did not end up well and was not able to get one from them. I did not lose hope so I took my luck to the Microsoft Store which is in the same mall as well. Luckily they had em in stock and I was able to snag one.
Question is.. How much is the Nokia Lumia 520?
The Lumia 520 is an AT&T Go Phone “aka” Prepaid phone MSRP $100 USD. That’s right a BENJAMIN.
On the way home.. My initial thought was not to expect too much from this phone. I mean my past Windows Phones were Flagship Nokia Lumia phones and did not want to expect too much just because its only a $100 phone.
Well as they say.. Expect the Unexpected..
Upon opening the Box..
- Nokia Lumia 520 handset
- USB cable
- SIM Card and User Guide
Like what I expected pretty much basic and overly satisfied.
My Initial Thoughts on the Physical aspect of the phone:
The Lumia 520 is pretty solid device. I am really liking the size, surprised to hear it from my wife as well who is an iPhone user. I can see a future convert, hoping Nokia would create a flagship like phone like this on this size. Not all consumers like big phones and big screens, some consumers have a max on the size they want on a phone and I can agree with them on this, it does really feels good in hand and the 4inch screen does not bother me at all. Also the phone is very light it only weighs 124 gram. One more thing I like about this phone too is the back case. The back case feels really good, its made of matte rubbery feel like the HTC 8X.
What Caught me by Surprise:
What caught me by surprise is the very limited branding on this phone. No AT&T logo in the front, and only 1 logo in the back bottom case which is hardly seen. Also the Lumia 520 comes in different color back case, so you can pretty much buy another case and can replace the stock case to remove the branding. I always like my phone clean of carrier branding, but sometimes its a sacrifice. This phone is also a World Phone which means it can work around the world where GSM exist. AT&T Go Phones are usually Dual Band US only phones.
My Initial Thoughts on Software:
Considering this phone only has 1ghz dual core processor and a 512MB RAM I was not expecting a good experience on the software side. Well I was wrong again.. The speed on scrolling through apps did not feel slow at all. Felt on par with my experience with the Lumia 920.
I really don’t have any CONS considering the Price of this phone. But here they are:
- No Front Facing Camera
- No LTE only 4G HSPA
- No Camera Flash
- No Wireless Charging
- No NFC
Anyways these are my initial thoughts so far, pardon me if I missed any important features. A bit writing this post at 3AM and it has been long day. But was really excited to share my thoughts on this device.
Will share more thoughts and testings along the way.. If you have any questions you can @ me on twitter. @erick_mac1
