Nokia Lumia 900 Has Visual Voicemail Here is How to Activate It

In this day and age of emails, Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and text messages there are still a few people out there that insist on leaving voice messages. (Why people, Why? Just text me please!)  What the best way to handle them? Visual Voicemail of course!

If you have a Nokia Lumia 900 or a newer ATT Windows Phone you have visual voicemail but just need the instructions on how to activate it.  Well here it is.. help this helps!

How to activate Visual Voicemail for the Lumia 900 or HTC Titan II:

  1. Insert your activated micro SIM into the Nokia Lumia 900 (if not inside already).
  2. Login to AT&T’s site and make sure your number has one of their 4G LTE plans enabled.
    • If it’s not, add the one that’s equivalent to your current plan, i.e. “DataPlus 200 MB” is the equivalent to “DataPlus 200 MB for 4G LTE”.
    • In our case we already had a 4G LTE plan, but for some odd reason it also said “visual voicemail disabled” in the plan’s name (likely because we updated from a non-4G phone). So we switched it to the normal 4G LTE with the same data limit at the same price. Make sure you set the effective date to today, because you shouldn’t have to worry about any extra charges if you pick a plan with the same price.
  3. Open the ‘Phone’ app and if you don’t see the visual voicemail yet, try rebooting your Lumia 900.
    • If you still don’t see it, try calling traditional voicemail and setting up a password in the ‘Administrative’ options.
  4. After that ‘Voicemail’ should appear as a pivot next to ‘History’ or you should be prompted with a pop-up dialog asking you for the voicemail password (if you have one).

How to activate Visual Voicemail for Windows Phone on AT&T:

  1. Update to build 8107 (method here).
  2. Insert your activated SIM card into any AT&T LTE-enabled phone (Android / Windows Phone / etc).
  4. Optional: Setup visual voicemail on that AT&T LTE device.
  5. Insert SIM back into your Windows Phone and if you don’t see the ‘Voicemail’ pivot in the Phone app, call voicemail the traditional way.
  6. After calling, the ‘Voicemail’ pivot should appear next to the normal ‘History’ pivot.
