WhatsApp Beta updated, UI changed and hidden features included

WhatsApp has picked up its first update this year in its beta branch. The update has changed the UI of the home screen and added some hidden features.

The new UI has ditched the old Windows Phone 8 pivot style and has introduced new pivots closer to MDL2. The new update also included some hidden changes under the hood. Few of the hidden features have been leaked by twitter user WABetaInfo in following tweets:

Now GIFs can be searched through the in-app search engine and new “Statuses” pivot has been introduced in the app. The later is much like Snapchat stories or hike timeline, with included ‘seen by’ counter like in Facebook. However, these features are hidden and there is no possible way of activating them manually as of now. They need some kind of server-side activation, which we can expect to roll out soon gradually.
