[Health Tech] New Fitbit Charge 2 Announced

In addition to announcing the Fitbit Flex 2, yesterday Fitbit also announced an update to the Fitbit Charge, in the form of the Fitbit Charge 2. Although the name implies that it replaces the Fitbit Charge, it appears that the Fitbit Charge retires and the new tracker actually replaces the Fitbit Charge HR.

Fitbit-Charge2_BlackBased on the information currently available the Fitbit Charge 2 brings the activity, sleep, altitude and HRM tracking from the Fitbit Charge HR, but adding the modern styling of the Fitbit Alta.

This, in itself, would be enough to tempt many people to upgrade but Fitbit have also added the movement prompts from the Fitbit Alta, along with a couple of new features:

  • Cardio Fitness Level: Find out how fit you are with a personalized cardio fitness level and score, based on your estimated VO2 Max, that are calculated using your user profile, heart rate and exercise data.

  • Relax, guided breathing sessions: This new on-device feature offers a relaxing mindfulness experience that calms your body and mind through personalized deep-breathing sessions. The beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate determine your personalized breathing rate for each experience.

If this still isn’t enough to tempt you, the team at Fitbit have also incorporated the connected GPS from the Fitbit Blaze. Rather than having the integrated GPS from the Fitbit Surge, the connected GPS means that the Fitbit Charge 2 needs a Bluetooth connection to a GPS enabled smartphone to track location information.

The only negative we can find is the lack of the waterproofness being offered by the Fitbit Flex 2.
